Emmy-Nominated Fear Us Women follows Hanna Bohman, a Canadian civilian who travels to Syria to fight as a volunteer soldier alongside the YPJ (Women's Protection Units) , an all-female Kurdish army battling ISIS. Driven by a desire to fight for women's liberation and equality in the Middle East, the film offers a harrowing, intimate look at Bohman's journey from her smuggling into the country to her training as a sniper and deployment on the front lines, all while highlighting the YPJ's symbolic power given the extremist belief that ISIS militants killed by women are sent to hell; the documentary received acclaim from the festival circuit, including a nomination for Best Short at the International Documentary Association (IDA) Awards.
